General Information
The information provided on this page is intended for foreign students who meet the legally established eligibility requirements to apply for a place in the undergraduate degrees and integrated master degrees under the International Student Status.
For this purpose, an international student is a student who satisfies cumulatively the conditions described below:
-
is not a national of an European Union (EU) Member State
-
is not a direct descendant, spouse (husband/wife) or partner of a national of a EU Member State
-
has not been legally residing in Portugal continuously for more than two years on the 1st January of the year in which he or she intends to enter higher education (himself/herself, his or her spouse or any of the parents with whom he or she lawfully resides)
-
is not a beneficiary of the status of equal rights and duties conferred in accordance with international treaties between the
Portuguese State and the State of which they are nationals
Students who are in emergency situation for humanitarian reasons may apply under the International Student Status, in accordance with article 7 of the REEIUCP, and should therefore contact the admissions@porto.ucp.pt.
This regime should also be used by international students who are already students in a foreign higher education institution or who are holders of a higher education degree (national or foreign).
The admission at UCP of foreign citizens who are not covered by the provisions of the International Student Status must apply under the terms applicable to students of Portuguese nationality.

1 Check if you are eligible
To be eligible, applicants must:
A. be considered an International Student, for which you must satisfy the following conditions:
Not to be a national of a European Union Member State and:
-
not a direct descendant, spouse (husband/wife) or partner of a national of a European Union Member State
-
not having been legally residing in Portugal continuously for more than two years on the 1st January of the year in which you intend to enter higher education (yourself, your spouse or any of the parents with whom you lawfully reside)
-
not a beneficiary of the status of equal rights and duties conferred in accordance with international treaties between the Portuguese State and the State of which they are nationals
B. Having obtained equivalence to the Portuguese secondary education (find out here if your secondary education course is equivalent – this document may be presented until the beginning of classes) OR having completed a qualification that gives access to higher education in the country of origin
C. Having taken the final secondary-school exams in the areas required to access each programme (find out here if the examinations that you have taken are enough). If the examinations that you sat for are not enough you can take examinations at UCP.
Students who are in an emergency situation for humanitarian reasons may apply under the International Student Status, in accordance with article 7 of the Regulations on the Application of International Student Status to Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and should therefore contact admissions@porto.ucp.pt.

(1) The 2nd Call for applications depends on the number of places that remained unfilled in the 1st Call.
(2) In the specific areas of the programme that students are applying for -exclusively for those whose previous exams were deemed insufficient.
3 Gather the documents
To apply, the following documents must be presented:
-
Certificate attesting to the equivalence to the Portuguese secondary education (to apply for at a Portuguese secondary school. Find out more here - this document may be presented until the beginning of classes)

Form with information on personal data or copy of Identification Document
-
Diploma and detailed secondary school transcripts or equivalent document (including a list of completed courses with classifications and final mark) * - (see which diplomas are accepted as equivalent here)

Document attesting to the passing of secondary-school examinations* OR programme content of secondary education courses for assessment* - (check here if the examinations taken or the courses completed are deemed sufficient)

Declaration on honour that the applicant is eligible for “international student” status

Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese or English, B2 level or equivalent (depending on whether the programme is taught in Portuguese or in English) or pass mark in written or via Skype exam by the UCP – applicants who have attended secondary education in the language in which the programme they are applying for will be taught are exempted from providing a language proficiency certificate
*When admitted, students must submit the original version of the document. All required documents issued outside Portugal need to be: a) certified by the Portuguese embassy or consulate in the issuing country, OR b) bear the Hague Apostille stamp issued by the relevant authority of the issuing country - for countries that have subscribed to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (the Hague Convention). When written in foreign languages other than Spanish, English or French, the documents must be translated into Portuguese, in accordance to the Portuguese notary laws.
PLEASE NOTE: Students who have already attended higher education and wish to apply for accreditation of prior learning, are required to submit their transcripts with the subjects successfully completed in higher education (including marks and workload) as well as the subjects’ syllabus/content.
4 Submit your application
Applications may submit in one of the following ways:

5 Payment
Applications will only considered after the application fee has been paid and proof of payment has been sent to UCP. Thus:

If the application was completed in the online application system:
-
Payment can be done using the ATM payment details mentioned in the final information of the application OR, when applicants do not have access to a Portuguese bank account, data for payment by bank transfer may be requested to admissions@porto.ucp.pt

Send proof of payment to admissions@porto.ucp.pt
-
If the application was completed on site, the fee payment will be done immediately after, at the Treasury’s Office
The application fee is not refundable.

6 Check the results
The results of your application will be published on this page on the scheduled dates (see step ❷) with the mention “Admitted” or “Not admitted”, along with the day/time of registration for admitted applicants. Only the applicants who have been Admitted can proceed to step ❼ (Registration).
7 Enrollment
Underage applicants must be accompanied by one of their parents or a tutor.
Registration on site:
To complete the registration, applicants must go to the Academic Services on the day and time mentioned in the admission results. To schedule a registration appointment on a different date/time within the registration period, please send an email to admissions@porto.ucp.pt. Applicants will receive an email message with the new date/time.
Failure to accept the place by completing the registration on the scheduled date will be considered as withdrawal.
To complete your registration, you must necessarily:

Present the identification document and vaccination record booklet with up-to-date tetanus immunization
-
Present the original versions of the previously requested documents (in case of admission, when the applicants have not provided them at the time of application). Failure in presenting these documents may prevent registration.

Payment of the registration fee and first monthly tuition (see the "Fees and Tuitions” tab)

Registration via email:
When receiving an applicants’ email requesting the registration to be completed online due to his/her absence from Portugal, the University will send the applicant an email with all the instructions and required elements necessary (to formalise registration: payment details of registration fee and first monthly tuition| for information: conditions and registration form, programme regulations, tuition and other fees table for the academic year concerned and Treasury regulations).
Applicants must send the proof of payment of the amounts due, within the time limit defined. After confirmation of the payment by the Treasury’s Office, applicants will receive an email with the all documents to be signed, in order to complete the registration.
To complete the process, the University will send the applicants a Letter of Acceptance to certify the registration.
Upon arrival in Portugal, and prior to the start of classes, students must necessarily present:
