1 Check if you are eligible
To be eligible, applicants must:
 
a. Holders of a bachelor's degree, or legal equivalent, in the following areas:
  • Applied Microbiology - Biological Sciences
  • Biomedical Engineering - Engineering or Life Sciences
  • Food Engineering - Food Engineering
  • Biotechnology for Bioeconomy - Biological Sciences
b. Holders of a bachelor's degree, or legal equivalent in related areas;
 
c. holders of a bachelor's degree in other training areas may be admitted, provided there is a favorable opinion from the  Coordination Commission.
 
d. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, in the areas referred to in the previous point, conferred following a 1st Cycle of Studies, organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process in a State that adheres to this Process.
 
e. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree in the areas referred to in point a), recognized by the Board of Science of ESB-UCP as meeting the objectives of a bachelor’s degree.
 
e. Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae, recognized by the Board of Science of ESB-UCP as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.

3 Gather the documents
  • Copy of ID document
  • Degree certificate* (detailed, indicating course units, marks obtained, ECTS and final average) - mandatory only for graduates from outside UCP.
  • Form for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) [17] - if applicable
  • Curriculum Vitae
If you have not yet completed your degree, you must replace the degree certificate with proof of Curricular Units completed and 1 of the followiing declarations:
  • Honour Declaration – applicants without a Degree completed [18]
  • Honour Declaration – applicants with a Degree, but without a Diploma [19]
 
*Note: All required documents issued outside Portugal need to be:
a) certified by the Portuguese embassy or consulate in the issuing country, OR
b) bear the Hague Apostille stamp issued by the relevant authority of the issuing country.
 
When written in foreign languages other than Spanish, English, French or Italian, the documents must be translated into Portuguese, in accordance to the Portuguese notary laws.
 
The original documents must be presented on registration (if not previously provided)
4 Submit your application

5 Payment
Your admission will only be considered valid after the payment of the respective fee has been confirmed by UCP, so you should make your payment according to the ATM references indicated in the final admission information.
 
See the Fees at the Tuition & Fees tab for information on admission, enrollment and tuition fees, as well as other information regarding payments.
 
6 Check the results

The results will be published in a digital platform of restricted access to the candidates, who will receive the credentials and access link by email, on a date close to the publication of the results, being presented with one of the following designations:

  • "Admitted" - if the candidate is admitted without any conditions
  • "Conditionally admitted" - the admission is conditional on the completion of the degree and presentation of the respective supporting documents by the stipulated date
  • "Referred to the Next Phase" - will be evaluated at the next phase on an equal basis with new candidates appearing at that phase
  • "Not Admitted"

Only Admitted candidates will be able to proceed to enrollment.

7 Registration
To the registration process, it will be necessary the following documents:
  • Identification document and vaccination record booklet with up-to-date tetanus immunization
  • Copy of the Vaccination card with the date of the last Tetanus immunization
  • Information requested by the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (RAIDES survey [23])
  • Registration form and other specific documents to be indicated at the time of admission
  • Proof of payment of the registration fee and first monthly tuition (see the "Fees and Tuitions” tab)
  • 1 Passport photo
The originals of the qualification certificates must be presented on a date and time to be defined by the Academic Services.
 
The applicant’s withdrawal is assumed if the registration is not completed within the stipulated period.
 
The registration fee is not refundable under any circumstances.

Merit scholarships

Merit scholarships are awarded to the best candidates to ESB Master's Degrees, each year, according to the following:

  • Only students who apply in the 1st or 2nd application calls and who enrol on the due dates are eligible;
  • These scholarships are only available to Portuguese students, nationals of an EU country or of a CPLP country;
  • Tuition fee exemption in the 1st year for students with an undergraduate degree equal to or higher than 18 (on a scale of 0 to 20);
  • 75% reduction of fees in the 1st year for students with an undergraduate degree equal to or higher than 17 (on a scale of 0 to 20);
  • 50% reduction of the 1st year tuition fees for students with an undergraduate degree equal to or higher than 16 (on a scale of 0 to 20);
  • These scholarships can only be used in conjunction with other merit awards given by UCP and with social benefits, up to the limit of 100% of the annual tuition fee; they cannot be used in conjunction with any other type of benefit.

Merit scholarships will be automatically awarded according to the defined criteria.

Tuition & Fees

Tuition, fees and other charges are set annually, published in a specific document, and therefore the amount for subsequent academic years may change.

As the values for 2026/27 are not yet available, below are the values in force for 2025/26 to be used as a reference.
