Undergraduate - Other Nationalities

The information provided on this page is intended for foreign students who meet the legally established eligibility requirements to apply for a place in the undergraduate degrees under the International Student Status.

For this purpose, an international student is a student who satisfies cumulatively the conditions described below:

is not a national of an European Union (EU) Member State
is not a direct descendant, spouse (husband/wife) or partner of a national of a EU Member State
has not been legally residing in Portugal continuously for more than two years on the 1st January of the year in which he or she intends to enter higher education (himself/herself, his or her spouse or any of the parents with whom he or she lawfully resides)
is not a beneficiary of the status of equal rights and duties conferred in accordance with international treaties between the Portuguese State and the State of which they are nationals

Students who are in emergency situation for humanitarian reasons may apply under the International Student Status, in accordance with article 7 of the REEIUCP, and should therefore contact the admissions.porto@ucp.pt [8].

This regime should also be used by international students who are already students in a foreign higher education institution or who are holders of a higher education degree (national or foreign).

The admission at UCP of foreign citizens who are not covered by the provisions of the International Student Status must apply under the terms applicable to students of Portuguese nationality.

* In the academic year 2026/27 the Undergraduate degrees in Bioengineering, in Microbiology, and in Nutrition Sciences will offer to its students the possibility of attending a class taught entirely in English, in addition to the class taught in Portuguese. The opening of this class in English is subject to a minimum number of students enrolled.

[1] When the exams taken by the applicant in his/her country of origin are not considered equivalent to the entrance exams required in Portugal, the applicant will have to take two entrance exams at UCP.

The opening of the 2nd and subsequent calls will depend on the number of places available in the previous calls.

3 Gather the documents

Copy of Identification Document (passport)
Diploma and detailed secondary school transcripts or equivalent document (including a list of completed courses with classifications and final mark)^[1][2]
A certificate attesting to the marks obtained in the final exams of secondary school subjects^[1][2]
Declaration on honour that the applicant is eligible for “international student” status [31]
Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese or English, B2 level or equivalent (depending on whether the programme is taught in Portuguese or in English)
Declaration, issued by the official education authority of the country of origin, stating that the secondary education qualification held, obtained in that country, is sufficient to allow admission to higher education in that country, in courses similar to those you wish to apply for^[2]
Class selection form [32] (only required for the application to the Undergraduate degree in Microbiology)
Special Educational Needs form [33] (only if needed)
Other documents may be requested if necessary

[1] These documents should include the grading scale used, as well as the minimum and maximum marks for approval. If it does not, the candidate must attach an official declaration issued by the educational institution, where that information is included.

[2] Documents issued in other countries must be legalized by the Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority in the issuing country, or contain the Hague Apostille [34], except for United Kingdom, and countries from EU, or European Economic Area, or European Free Trade Association. When written in foreign languages other than Spanish, English, French or Italian, these documents must be translated into Portuguese, according to the Portuguese notary laws. The original documents must be presented on registration (if not previously provided).

Please be aware that to enrol; you must present the originals of the documents duly legalised if issued in a foreign country.

PLEASE NOTE: Students who have already attended higher education and wish to apply for accreditation of prior learning, are required to submit their transcripts with the subjects successfully completed in higher education (including marks and workload) as well as the subjects’ syllabus/content.
